This is the First of “Three Orchestral Songs”, which are settings of poetry by two 19th-c. poet brothers, James Russell Lowell and Robert Traill Spence Lowell.
This score is for a “chamber orchestra” — 3 woodwinds (flute, clarinet, alto sax), 3 brass (horn, Bb trumpet, trombone), woman's voice (high mezzo with low chest range), piano and 4 strings (violin, viola, cello and double bass).
Score is in concert, but parts are transposed.
